In this boxing glove review, I will be taking a closer look at the Cleto Reyes Training Gloves. Specifically the hook and loop version to give you my own experience of using the gloves. Along with my thoughts on the brand, design, features and the pros/cons.
Who are Cleto Reyes?
To start off, Cleto Reyes are an American / Mexican boxing company. They are arguably one of best suppliers of quality boxing gloves and innovative accessories such as heavy bags, head guards and much more. Cleto Reyes pride themselves on their handmade quality and Mexican heritage. This makes them a great go to boxing brand for most equipment.
Boxers That Have Used Cleto Reyes
Many on the top boxers have used Cleto Reyes gloves in some of the biggest fights. That can only be because of how well they are crafted. Here is a list of some true greats that have used them over the years:
Manny Paquiao – Cleto Reyes has been a go to glove for the ‘PacMan‘ throughout illustrious career.
Oscar De La Hoya – the former world champ was well known for using Cleto Reyes during his successful career.
Juan Manuel Marquez – the masterful Mexican combination puncher, Marquez, was a fond user of Cleto Reyes in his biggest fights.
KSI VS Logan Paul 2 – even both YouTube stars wore Cleto Reyes gloves in their first professional bout.
Glove Design
Back to gloves now! The Cleto Reyes Training Gloves with the hook and loop strap are truly impressive. This is due to that fact all these have been handmade from Mexico. Which really makes you appreciate the craftsmanship that have gone into the gloves when you start using them.
The design itself is a very traditional boxing glove shape with a flatter top to help with prolonged punching while training on the heavy bag or sparring. The gloves also have an attached thumb which prevents eye injuries if sparring or keeps the thumb from being broken or sprained while training.
In terms of the hook and loop velcro strap – it provides you with excellent wrist support that will give you a safe workout, preventing your hand from bending and damaging. The handmade leather strap with the hook and loop closure provides a firm and faster glove fit than majority of gloves in my opinion.
Materials
Cleto Reyes Training Gloves are also made with some of the best materials you can ask for. This sets them as one of the highest standard of gloves in my opinion. The gloves themselves are manufactured under strict quality control and in actual fact are made with goatskin leather.
The front padding is created with long-lasting latex foam which gives your knuckles the support they need. It also helps you to punch longer while training. When you first start using the gloves there is a bit of a break in period. However, once you have used them for couple fo weeks, you can really tell that they will last a while, making it a brilliant investment! The padding also makes the gloves very comfortable to wear in my opinion.
They also have water repellent linings, which helps prevent moisture from entering the padding and keeps the glove weight consistent from when you first put them on. (There is also extra padded version of these gloves if you feel you need this – check out on Amazon)
Visuals
As I said further above, the gloves have a far more traditional look and for some people they don’t want any fancy designs. They just prefer a quality glove that does the job while adding a bit of colour! The thing that makes the gloves stand out for me is obviously their branding on the top of the gloves and on the hook and loop strap. Most Boxing fanatic will know you have a quality glove and it will also give you a massive confidence booster wearing these.

Final thoughts
Cleto Reyes Hook and Loop Training Gloves are without a doubt a brilliant option for your boxing training and workouts. They may look like a fairly simple looking glove at first look, but once you get your hands in them. You will start to appreciate the craftsmanship and why some of the true boxing greats have decided to wear the Cleto Reyes brand.
They are also brilliant for boxers of all levels and can be used for all types of training. While the velco strapping makes it quick and easy to put them on.
